I just had my account manager from Internet Solutions come past to discuss our account with them. I have had endless crap with IS over the past 6-8 months, particularly around their appalling levels of support.
Yesterday I decided to try out a US-based hosting company called eApps, which offers specialist Java hosting. It took about 10 minutes from deciding to get a server to being able to logon, with Tomcat and PostgreSQL pre-installed. And for R500 a month. So the question is: are IS losers? And if they aren’t now, will they be losers when SA’s international bandwidth opens up so that we can all host happily offshore? Or will that kind of competition finally force local hosting companies to get their shit together?
